Wrist Pain & Carpal Tunnel Treatment in Glendale, CA

Wrist and hand pain gets in the way of typing, cooking, lifting children and almost everything else. Dr. Kwang Lee, D.C., L.Ac., checks whether the problem is in the wrist itself or coming from the neck, elbow or forearm, then treats it with precise joint work, acupuncture and simple exercises.

Problems we see every week

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome: numb or tingling fingers, worse at night
  • Wrist sprain after a fall
  • Thumb-side wrist pain from lifting or phone use (De Quervain)
  • Wrist pain from typing or mouse use
  • Weak grip or dropping things
  • Elbow and forearm pain that travels to the wrist

What treatment involves

  1. Examination of the wrist, hand, elbow and neck to locate the real source of numbness or pain
  2. Mobilization of the small wrist and hand joints
  3. Acupuncture for nerve irritation and tendon pain
  4. Workstation and activity changes, splinting advice when useful, and home exercises
  5. Referral for nerve testing or a hand specialist when symptoms are severe or not improving

Treatments we use for this problem

See a doctor or emergency room first if you have

  • Obvious deformity or inability to move the wrist after a fall
  • Rapidly worsening weakness or muscle wasting in the hand
  • Numbness in both hands with neck symptoms or walking difficulty
  • Hot, swollen joint with fever

Questions patients ask

Is my numbness carpal tunnel or something else?

Not always carpal tunnel. Numbness in the fingers can also come from the neck or elbow. The examination is designed to tell these apart, because the treatment is different.

Will I need surgery for carpal tunnel?

Many mild to moderate cases improve with conservative care: nerve gliding exercises, splinting at night, activity changes and acupuncture. Severe or persistent cases are referred for nerve testing and a surgical opinion.

I work at a computer all day. What can I change?

Keyboard and mouse position, wrist posture and short breaks make a measurable difference. You will get specific adjustments for your setup.

Can I be treated in Korean?

Yes. Dr. Lee sees patients in Korean and English.
